Full-Time Client Interpreter - Memphis, TN

The mission of Advocates for Immigrant Rights (AIR) is to fight for the dignity, safety, and inclusion of immigrants in the United States, especially those most marginalized, through legal representation and advocacy. We fight for the rights of immigrants but also for the expansion of those rights to ensure that all people are equally protected by the laws of the United States. AIR seeks to create structural and systemic change by coordinating with other legal service providers and community-based organizations to complement our skills and build our mutual capacity. Advocates for Immigrant Rights is seeking someone to fill the position of Client Interpreter for our Memphis office. We need someone who is fluent in both English and Spanish, organized, self-driven and motivated with the ability to identify solutions to issues as they arise.

 This is a full-time hourly position, to start immediately, with opportunity for growth within the organization. The Client Interpreter will provide administrative support for the administrative and language work of Advocates for Immigrant Rights.

Purpose of Role

  • To interpret and translate for attorneys and legal representatives.

  • To support client representation, facilitate communication between clients and Attorney/Legal Representatives.

  • To provide administrative support for Advocates for Immigrant Rights.

Administrative Duties    

  • Pleasantly interacting with clients over the phone in Spanish and/or English to disseminate and collect accurate information with an emphasis on client satisfaction

    • Answering all incoming calls/texts/emails/messages on the mainline to provide accurate information

    • Scheduling appointments

    • Collecting payments

    • Follow up with clients regarding payments, receipts, application status, etc.

  • Accurately logging client interactions in case management system

  • Participation in Staff Meetings

  • Other administrative duties as required

Language duties include:

  • Interpret for attorneys/legal reps during consultations, follow up appointments, phone calls, etc.

  • Interpret by phone for attorneys/legal reps in our satellite offices as needed

  • Conduct intakes with potential clients in English and Spanish

    • Create a client profile in case management application

    • Create an invoice for the consultation fee

  • Translate documents

  • Cover for other support team members in their absence or when things are slow

  • Community Outreach

  • Other legal duties as they arise

Qualifications

Must have reliable transportation. Must have at least a High School Diploma or GED and at least 4 years of work experience OR a college degree. Required skills include fluency in both English and Spanish, basic proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel), Google Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Prior experience in the immigration field is highly preferred.

Wage and Benefits

Hourly wage from $20.00 to $22.00 per hour commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits including health insurance coverage and generous paid time off as well as the opportunity to participate in SIMPLE IRA plan with a 3.5% organizational match, and federal loan forgiveness eligibility.
